Post-election violence in Côte d'Ivoire resulted in the displacement of thousands of people, mostly in the western part of the country. Humanitarian organizations concentrated their efforts in that region, where needs were tremendous.

But in the Zanzan region, Côte d'Ivoire's northeast, high rates of malnutrition and very low literacy had been a reality for some time already. The post-election crisis only made things worse.
